Weekend vs. Week

Oh the things I need to think about these days.

Did you have a good weekend? I think I did. Overall, anyway. Although, at this point, I must admit that it is difficult to separate my weekends from my weeks. The major difference? No daytime TV shows.

I know. I know. Poor Miss Anna…how dreadful to have time off and lose track of what day it is. I do agree with you. I’m lucky to have this nice break. But I do find there is ultimately a problem with this for me: I don’t have enough to do. Again: why am I complaining? You see, I’m that wacky kind of person who operates best when I have stuff to do and a full schedule. I have a to do list right now, but I can’t seem to get my bum off the couch and get things done. For all the times I complain about being too busy and having “literally noooooo time” (YES, I just wrote that and NO, I’m not a crazy character from Clueless) I have an even greater inability to accomplish anything when I am the opposite of busy. Whatever that is.

I crave and need that sense of pressure and the deadlines that come with being busy. Forget just getting stuff accomplished, I even do better work when I’m busy! The brilliance juices are all a-flowin’ through my brain. (Technical terms people. Very technical.) So, with nothing to do these days, my to do list is quite lonely and abandoned. I even miss that satisfying little squiggly line I use to cross an item off my list. Sigh. There is one highlight hopefully coming my way…courtesy of the delightful Miss B. (The person who really inspired my blogging start and one of the most fabulous ladies on the interwebs). Hopefully the pressure of a deadline from outside will help move me along. No, I can’t tell you just yet. Okay, I could, but I’d rather keep you in suspense. Don’t you enjoy the tension? What will it be? Will it actually kick my bum into gear? No one knows!!

See? I had you all thinking I was writing about my weekend. I’m a trickster like that.

Running Errands

Errands. It sounds like such a simple word. Heck, I would go so far as to say even a fun one sometimes. But, being me, I can make it more complicated and less fun.

First, we have to consider that I love to get out of the house. And I mean L-O-V-E love. I get to complete a task, I get to drive around and enjoy some fabulous music-driving combination, I can stop for a fancy coffee on the way, oh the possibilities are endless. And delightful! With that said, I like to space out the fun I have, as much as possible. Helps keep me sane (or so I tell myself). I prefer to think of spacing out fun like you should space out exercise. If you work out every day for the first week of a month and then don't for the next three weeks, it doesn't do much good and just wears you out for that week. If you exercise a few times each week during the month, you get much more out of it. In an effort to space out the fun of getting out of the house, I need to think in advance about how recently I went out and when I might need to go out again.

Second, there is the list making. I love lists. Lots of them. In every pocket, notebook, or post-it. Everywhere. I just don't want to forget anything! (Not that I wouldn't love making that second or third trip) Once there are loads of little lists, I have to compile them and figure out what I really need to get and what I just thought I needed to get. Working on minimizing that impact on the environment with less extra stuff and less gas spent on trips.

Look at this already. Two paragraphs and I haven't even left the house yet! Can you see how I make this less fun?

Third, when do I leave the house? I want to maximize the time of day and things I have to do based around making meals, tv shows I like to watch, exercise in the morning, and even when I might get the urge for more caffeine.

Once I have managed to cull some sensible plan out of these variables and requirements, I can leave the house. Why do I feel compelled to think through so many things before I run a "simple" errand? I still don't know. Shit. Oh well. I'll over-think about it some more.
